Both deceased patients are men with several underlying conditions, the Ministry of Health said.

One patient, a 77-year-old man in Binh Tan District, had had a stroke in the past and been confined to his bed in the last four years, unable to speak. He also had hypertension.

He tested positive for the coronavirus and was transferred to the Trung Vuong Hospital on June 20 while in a coma. Despite numerous treatments, he died the same day.

His causes of death were pneumonia caused by Covid-19, multiple organ failure and septic shock.

The other patient, a 54-year-old man in District 1, had hypertension, diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

He tested positive for the coronavirus on June 19 and was transferred to the Trung Vuong Hospital on June 24. Despite treatments, his condition deteriorated and he died on June 26 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19, respiratory failure complications, septic shock and multiple organ failure.

More than two months into the new wave, Vietnam has recorded 12,788 local infections in 48 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang has the highest number of infections, at 5,667, followed by HCMC with 3,494.
