Investing in product quality

In 2020, Bac Giang has three typical national-level rural industrial products, including the Green Chu rice noodle of the Trai Lam noodle production cooperative in Nam Duong commune (Luc Ngan district), the yellow flower tea of the Luu Chanh herbal plant production cooperative in Truong Son commune (Luc Nam district), and the wheelbarrow of the Hung Thao Mechanical Co., Ltd., in Ngoc Chau commune (Tan Yen district).

Tran Van Hung, Director of the Hung Thao Mechanical Co., Ltd., said that his company has been manufacturing wheelbarrows for more than 20 years. From a small scale initially, only serving the markets of the northern provinces, in 2018, he founded the company and then expanded production to reach foreign customers.

Hung has invested in modern machinery to replace old equipment. As a result, the wheelbarrows are durable and beautiful, which were appreciated by the jury in the vote for typical rural industrial products. In 2019, the wheelbarrow continued to be voted as the typical rural industrial product of the region.

After two consecutive years recognized by professional agencies for its quality, the wheelbarrow product has approached large enterprises at home and in many foreign countries such as Australia, Poland, and New Zealand. In 2020, the company rearranged its production and bought more wheelbarrow tube bending machines and specialized hydraulic presses to make high-quality products.

As a result, the wheelbarrow meets international standards and is recognized by competent authorities as a typical national rural industrial product. Currently, each year, the firm sells more than 100,000 wheelbarrows to the market, earning 15-17 billion VND (662,000-750,000 USD) in revenue.

Similarly, on this occasion, the Trai Lam noodles production cooperative in Nam Duong commune also obtained more orders for its Green Chu rice noodle. A representative of the cooperative revealed that in the month the unit signed contracts with two large supermarkets in Hanoi with a total quantity of 1.5 tonnes of noodle per month. The partners required printing the logo of the national rural industrial product on the packaging.

Currently, the cooperative has registered intellectual property and continues to register the trademark for the product. From the end of 2020 to the beginning of 2021, the Green Chu rice noodle was available in the Japanese market but in a small quantity. The recognition of the Green Chu rice noodle as a typical national rural industrial product will open up great opportunities for it to access more domestic and international customers.

Enhancing product promotion

According to a leader of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the recognition of typical rural industrial products at all levels, especially at the national level, aims to discover and honor rural industrial products with high quality, value and potential for production development, meeting consumer requirements.

At the same time, the programme has been contributing to encouraging and creating motivation for rural industrial production establishments and cooperatives in the province to actively expand their scale, innovate production methods, and improve technology. The number of products registering to participate in the vote is increasing day by day, with quality improved over the years.

For recognized products, the Department of Industry and Trade and other departments, agencies and localities have paid attention to providing support in terms of equipment, packaging and traceability stamping. In particular, every year, they select and create favorable conditions for enterprises and cooperatives to participate in fairs and exhibitions to display their products and connect domestic and international supply and demand.

In the coming time, the department will find out information about technology, products, markets and production equipment to give advice to and support enterprises and cooperatives; promote and introduce products through fairs and exhibitions inside and outside the province. At the same time, it will help with the development of brands for recognized products in association with tourism development.
