Union shop makes trusted address for workers
The idea to build the model started in 2014 when the business re-arranged the production area. At that time, there were some empty areas in the warehouse. The Executive Board of the company trade union recommended the leader to arrange a shop to supply quality commodities and products to workers so as to help them save a part of living cost.

Now, the model is widespread to 4 more shops. Though each covers about 30 square meters, the shop offers various commodities of confectionery, water, rice, cooking oil, instant noodle...
Nguyen Thi Lan who is a Lang Son province native worker at team No.51 and regular customer shared: “When the union shop was open, my colleagues and I can buy most of the necessities here so we save a lot of time. Everyone feels comfortable about the products’ price, origin and quality”.
According to Vu Thi Thanh Ha, Vice Director of Organization Department, Chairwoman of the company Trade Union, in addition to be in charge of buying, supervising the quantity, kind and origin of each product, the Trade Union’s Executive Board also appoints its members and leaders of production groups to open the shop (at break and off working time), arrange the commodity, sell the product and work as the cashier...
Each shop welcomes about 300 workers to buy products everyday. On Tet or holiday occasions, there are about 1,000 customers per day.
“Apart from selling products at the same price as the buying one to the labourers, the trade union proposed business leader to ink the cooperative agreement with some members participating the welfare programme for the trade unionists in the province. Hence, the workers can buy the products at preferential price (discount from 10 – 20 percent) and receive promotional gift such as milk and cooking oil”.
Despite the model brings practical effectiveness, the union shop is opened at a few companies in the province. To widespread the model, besides the consultation from the trade union, due attention from business leader, the provincial Labour Federation should further implement the welfare programme for the members of trade union.
From the agreements with prestigious partners, the labourers will comfortably use the quality product with reasonable price and save a part of living cost.
