Viet Nam aims for modern railway system in global supply chain

Updated: 16:43, 13/11/2025

The 2025 International Exhibition and Conference on Modern Railway Technology and Infrastructure Construction Supply Chain (VRT&CONS 2025) took place at the Viet Nam Exposition Centre in Ha Noi on November 12, marking a significant event in the field of transportation.

Themed “The Future of Viet Nam’s Railway in the Global Supply Chain”, the event brought together senior leaders, international experts, and leading enterprises to foster cooperation in the development of a modern railway infrastructure in Viet Nam.

The opening ceremony for VRT&CONS 2025.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy, on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, expressed his warm welcome and appreciation for the presence of international delegations and leading global corporations in the railway sector.

The deputy minister emphasised that such participation demonstrates deep concern and strong commitment to cooperation and partnership with Viet Nam in developing key infrastructure systems.

He also commended the organisers and relevant ministries and agencies for their initiative in hosting such a meaningful event with a strategically visionary and practical theme, closely aligned with the country’s development orientation.

He further noted that railways are a crucial solution in the transition to green and clean energy, contributing towards Viet Nam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

However, he stressed that railway investment requires enormous resources in finance, human capital, and a modern and well-connected industrial supply chain.

Speaking at the event, German Ambassador to Viet Nam Helga Margarete Barth shared that Germany has a long history of developing modern railways — from rail technology to maintenance and operation.

She affirmed that Germany is ready to share its experience and cooperate with Viet Nam in building a modern railway system to meet regional connectivity needs, advance the green transition, and promote economic development.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, a high-level forum themed “The Future of Viet Nam’s Railway in the Global Supply Chain” took place, drawing strong attention from delegates.

Within the forum, Director General Tran Thien Canh presented an overview of the National Railway Network Planning Vision to 2050 and its implementation roadmap.
