Dai Son commune sees major economic transformation

Updated: 15:54, 13/11/2025

BAC NINH - With agriculture and forestry identified as the foundation for local economic growth, Dai Son Commune (Bac Ninh province) has focused on restructuring its crop and livestock production while applying science and technology to increase productivity and value per hectare. These efforts have steadily improved local livelihoods and transformed local economic landscape.

Expanding commercial agriculture

In recent years, Dai Son has shifted strongly from small-scale production to commercial agriculture, adopting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to ensure product quality and market access.

The commune’s key crops—lychee and apple—are well-suited to local conditions and deliver high economic value. Currently, the commune has 639 hectares of lychee with an annual output of 10,024 tonnes, generating more than 200 billion VND (8.7 million USD) in the latest season.

A highlight of Dai Son’s agricultural restructuring has been the successful introduction of jujube cultivation on a concentrated scale. The area has now expanded to more than 190 hectares, yielding 3,575 tonnes in 2024. The trees are now entering their fruiting stage, with harvests expected during the Lunar New Year.

Dai Son jujubes, recognized as a 3-star OCOP product, have gained a solid market reputation, with distribution agreements signed with traders, retail chains, and supermarkets inside and outside the province.

According to Luong Van Tu, head of the commune’s economic office, alongside crop development, Dai Son is also promoting livestock production, taking advantage of its natural grazing lands and agricultural by-products.

Local farmers now raise 352 buffaloes, 1,270 cows, and more than 75,500 poultry, goats, and deer. Total meat output reaches 387 tonnes annually, generating about 31.3 billion VND.

Beekeeping has also become a profitable sideline, with 2,320 colonies producing more than 34.5 tonnes of honey each year, worth an estimated 5.1 billion VND.

Forestry remains a major income source, with over 4,000 hectares of production forest and a forest coverage rate of 65%. Average income from forest-based production reaches nearly 100 million VND per hectare per five-year cycle, bringing the commune’s total forestry output value to 292 billion VND.

Thanks to the diversification of income sources, many households have escaped poverty, and living standards continue to improve. The commune’s average income now stands at 40 million VND per person per year—1.6 times higher than in 2020.

Promoting trade and service development

Also, Dai Son commune has invested in infrastructure to stimulate trade and service growth. Numerous public works have been completed, reshaping the rural landscape.

These projects have enabled the growth of small industries and services, such as furniture production, mechanical repair, building materials, essential goods supply, and garment processing, which together provide stable employment for over 1,400 local workers.

Today, 88.4% of commune roads and 82% of village roads are paved, facilitating trade and transportation.

The expansion of retail networks, transportation, postal, telecommunications, Internet, and digital payment services has also boosted local commerce. From 2020 to 2025, the commune’s total industrial, handicraft, and rural production value is estimated at 377.1 billion VND, while commercial and service output is expected to reach 226.1 billion VND.

The commune aims for an average annual economic growth rate of 12.5% during 2025–2030. Targets include 365 billion VND per year in trade and service production value, 125 million VND in agricultural output per hectare, and 25 million VND per hectare in forestry output.

According to Chairman Hoang Van Phuong of the Dai Son People’s Committee, the commune is developing a detailed five-year socio-economic plan with specific targets for each sector and village.

“We are focusing on science and technology application and value-chain-based agricultural production,” he said.

Dai Son also plans to attract investment in potential sectors such as wood processing, mechanical engineering, building materials, transportation, and commerce, while linking forest development with eco-tourism and community-based tourism to promote local identity.

The commune continues to ensure transparent financial management and mobilize social resources under the principle of ‘the State and the people working together’ to build a prosperous and sustainable Dai Son.
