Viet Yen develops trade, service infrastructure
Quang Chau commune has eight villages with 17,000 people. In addition, there are nearly 20,000 workers staying in boarding houses in the locality (35,000 workers in the peak period). However, there is no market in the commune so local people still buy goods at Nenh market in Nenh township and markets in Bac Ninh city.

Currently, Quang Minh and Ninh Son communes are also considered "low-lying areas" in terms of trade and service infrastructure as they boast a large population, but no market. In addition, other types of services develop slowly.
Adjacent to Quang Chau and Quang Minh communes is Nenh township, which has 23,000 people and more than 20,000 workers living in boarding houses. In the township, there are two markets, My Dien and Nenh, and dozens of grocery and business stores. However, they need to be upgraded to meet the increasing needs of people and workers working in the area and neighboring localities.
Nguyen Van Cuong, head of the Nenh market management board, said that the market has 400 stalls offering all kinds of goods, from fresh products to fashion and production tools, but mostly food. According to Cuong, this is a wholesale market of vegetables, tubers, fruits, pork and fish, serving kitchens in industrial parks in the district and Bac Ninh city. Every day 25 meat shops in the market sell nearly 20 tons of pork.
According to a representative of the Viet Yen district People's Committee, the district faces difficulties in building and developing trade and service infrastructure as traditional markets here were established a long time ago and follow the customs and habits of the local people.
Some localities have not yet built a market, although the planning was approved. This leads to the existence of temporary markets and spontaneous trading venues, affecting urban beauty and violating regulations on environmental sanitation and traffic safety.
Other localities have markets but their operation is not efficient due to inconvenient transportation and poor management. The construction of some markets remains slow because of difficulties in site clearance, such as the new Nenh market and a market in the social housing area.
To meet the criteria of trade and service infrastructure to become a town, since 2021, the People's Committee of Viet Yen district has been implementing 105 detailed planning projects covering more than 3,100 hectares. At the same time, the district has allocated 42 billion VND (1.78 million USD) to renovate and upgrade eight markets serving the people's livelihoods.

The projects are now under investment preparation. The renovation of old markets such as Nenh and Phuc Tang markets in Tang Tien commune has helped form concentrated trading zones with better infrastructure quality. Some new markets have been built, including Ninh Son, Nui Hieu, and Bich Dong, contributing to expanding the business scale in the district and increasing budget revenue.
Recently, the district People's Committee completed investment attraction for three trade and service projects. Nguyen Viet Cuong, head of the district’s Economic Division, said that along with attracting investment and upgrading the trade and service infrastructure, the district will continue to review and supplement the trade and service planning to match the local socio-economic development master plan and urban planning. It will adjust the land use plan to ensure the land fund for market development.
Viet Yen will support the transformation of the market management model in the direction of enterprises and cooperatives investing in construction and management; develop a plan to transform the model of market management, business and exploitation for each locality, thus contributing to the building of Viet Yen town in the future and promoting socio-economic development.
