Updated: 14:17, 13/03/2026

Vietnam's passport has climbed up two places from January's version to 84th in the Henley Passport Index's 2026 ranking, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 48 out of 227 destinations.

Vietnam now shares the same position with Angola, Burundi and Central Africa.

A Vietnam's passport.

Vietnam's passport had climbed seven spots to rank 84th globally with visa-free access to 51 destinations in the July 2025 ranking but dropped four places to 88th in September before falling to 92nd in October.

In January, it ranked 86th, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 49 destinations.

Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranks above Cambodia (85th), Laos (87th) and Myanmar (90th).

In earlier rankings, the Cambodian passport placed higher than Vietnam's.

Singapore continues holding the title of the world's most powerful passport, allowing visa-free entry to 193 destinations, followed by Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates that shared the second position.

The five weakest passports belong to Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

The Henley Passport Index tracks global travel freedom across 227 countries and territories, using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

It ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without obtaining a visa in advance. Updated regularly throughout the year to reflect changes in visa policies, the index is widely regarded as a key measure of global mobility.
