Foreign tourists visit the lychee-growing region of Luc Ngan. |
Since 2006, the family of Nguyen Van Huu in Chu ward has shifted from growing lychee to cultivating citrus trees.
On more than 10 hectares, they grow oranges and pomelos, applying VietGAP standards, organic fertilisers, and biological products such as fermented fish and soybeans.
For pest control, lime powder and lime-copper solutions are used instead of chemicals. This approach has improved product quality and appearance, increased selling prices by 20–30%, and ensured more stable markets.
Building on clean production, many localities have developed agricultural tourism models. Garden owners have created experiential destinations attracting visitors, boosting farmers’ incomes while promoting local produce.
Notable examples include orchards in Chu ward, Kien Lao commune, Luc Son commune; and models run by cooperatives such as Garden Viet Experiential Tourism Cooperative and Tien Phat Clean Agricultural Services Cooperative in Phuong Son ward.

The development of processed products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) items has also proven effective. In Nhan Thang commune, herbal products by VIETKET Herbal Company such as shampoo, mouthwash, and soap, have achieved OCOP certification.
The company own a 5-hectare raw material area under a “three-no” principle: no pesticides, no chemical fertilisers, and no preservatives. Certification has helped expand markets and boost sales.
Toward sustainable development
Bac Ninh currently has nearly 54,000 hectares of fruit trees, generating an estimated value of over 7.4 trillion VND (280.86 million USD).
In 2026 alone, lychee cultivation covers 29,800 hectares with expected output of about 160,000 tonnes. Of this, nearly 17,500 hectares meet VietGAP standards, over 255 hectares satisfy GlobalGAP, and 10 hectares are organic.

The province has issued 240 planting area codes and certified 42 packing facilities eligible for export to markets such as China, Japan, the United States, Australia, and Thailand, with plans to add 10 more growing area codes next year. Citrus trees account for nearly 8,200 hectares.
More than 1,600 high-tech agricultural facilities are currently in operation, contributing over 30% of the sector’s total value.
Technologies such as net houses, drip irrigation, environmental sensors, farm management software, traceability systems, and e-commerce platforms are being widely applied, reducing costs, increasing productivity, and improving market access.
Kien Lao commune, with over 1,810 hectares of fruit trees including lychee, longan, pomelo, and orange, is considered one of the province’s “fruit capitals.”
Local farmers have actively shifted their production mindset, adopting advanced technologies and moving toward safe and organic farming practices.
