The region is home to more than 274,000 ethnic minority residents, representing nearly 7.6% of the population and more than 40 ethnic groups.
Six ethnic communities with significant populations live in concentrated settlements, including the Nung, Tay, San Diu, Hoa, San Chay (Cao Lan and San Chi) and Dao groups.
In line with Prime Ministerial Directive No. 19/CT-TTg on accelerating the implementation of Vietnam’s Ethnic Affairs Strategy through 2030, with a vision to 2045, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been tasked with reviewing and proposing mechanisms and policies to support the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values among ethnic minorities.
The initiative focuses on providing priority state budget funding for safeguarding cultural heritage, particularly among smaller ethnic groups and cultural traditions facing the risk of disappearance.
The province also plans to preserve and develop traditional cultural spaces and heritage villages in conjunction with sustainable tourism development.
Cultural tourism and community-based tourism projects involving ethnic minority communities are expected to receive priority support, ensuring local residents directly participate in and benefit from tourism activities.
