Held by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the event is part of the activities under the ongoing 3rd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW-3) in the capital city.

It offered an opportunity for stakeholders in the region to discuss measures to address the employment needs of women in the labor force in general and in the digital economy in particular.

Nguyen Manh Cuong, Head of MOLISA’s International Cooperation Department, emphasized that no one can deny the great role of women in each country's economy. In ASEAN, women are increasingly asserting their position in economic activities, contributing positively to the development of each country.

By strengthening the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), ASEAN countries have made great strides in strengthening women's empowerment in the socio-economic and political sphere, Cuong said, adding that the potential of women has not been fully exploited, especially in contributing to economic development.

He praised the efforts made by the USAID and the ASEAN Secretariat in coordination with the MOLISA to organize the event to help delegates discuss the challenges and make recommendations to promote economic empowerment for women in general and ASEAN women in particular.

With four session sessions, the workshop focused on the opportunities and challenges facing women in the digital economy, based on the results of the ASEAN Connectivity through Trade and Investment (ACTI) project sponsored by the USAID.

The delegates also discussed legal barriers and employment regulations for women in ASEAN, which were presented in a USAID study, from which to make recommendations to address the issues.

The latest evidence related to global women-driven SMEs, along with regional support frameworks, particular the Action Agenda aims to mainstream Women's Economic Empowerment for women in ASEAN, were also introduced by the Resonance Global at the event to propose recommendations to policymakers.

Third ASEAN ministerial meeting on women to be held in Hanoi

The third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW) and related meetings will take place in Hanoi on October 18-25, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha told a press conference on October 15.
