Former Party General Secretary Do Muoi laid to rest in hometown

A burial service for former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi took place in his native land in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi at 1pm of October 7.

Attending the ceremony were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong, permanent National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man, leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, representatives from mass organisations, localities, armed forces, and people from walks of life.

Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, and family of the late Party chief observed a one-minute silence to pay their last respects to Do Muoi.

During his over 80-year revolutionary career, Do Muoi had made great contributions to the struggle for national liberation and reunification and the building of socialism.

On behalf of the funeral organising board and the deceased’s family, permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, head of the board, expressed thanks to mourners for attending the tribute-paying and burial services for the leader, seeing him off at his final resting place.

The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have issued a special communiqué, announcing that former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Do Muoi passed away at 23:12 on October 1, 2018, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.
