Hanoi to close numerous roads for 80th National Day parade, rehearsals
Hanoi police have announced extensive road closures and traffic restrictions in the city center and surrounding areas in preparation for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day celebrations on Sept. 2.
In addition to road closures on Sept. 2, various restrictions will be applied during rehearsals leading up to the event. The schedule for the street closures is as follows:

- For the first general rehearsal from 8:00 p.m. Aug. 21: Streets will be closed from 5:00 p.m. Aug. 21 to 3:00 a.m. Aug. 22
- For the second general rehearsal from 8:00 p.m. Aug. 24, streets will be closed from 5 p.m. Aug. 24 to 3 a.m. Aug. 25.
- For the second general rehearsal from 8:00 p.m. Aug. 24, streets will be closed from 5:00 p.m. Aug. 27 to 3:00 a.m. Aug. 28.
- For the final rehearsal from 6:30 a.m. Aug. 30, streets will be closed from 6:00 p.m. Aug. 29 to 3:00 p.m. Aug. 30.
- For the celebrations on Sept. 2, streets will be closed from 6:00 p.m. Sept. 1 to 3:00 p.m. Sept. 2.
Streets to be completely closed to traffic during these hours are Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue (from Hung Vuong to Van Cao), Mai Xuan Thuong, Quan Thanh, Phan Dinh Phung, Hung Vuong, Thanh Nien, Hoang Van Thu, Doc Lap, Dien Bien Phu, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Chua Mot Cot, Le Hong Phong, Ong Ich Khiem, Ngoc Ha, Bac Son, Ton That Dam, Nguyen Canh Chan, Hoang Dieu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Chu Van An, Ton Duc Thang, Cat Linh, Trinh Hoai Duc, Hang Chao, Tran Phu, Son Tay, Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, Van Cao, Nghi Tam, Yen Phu, Cua Bac, Doi Can, La-Pho Hill, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Duan, Tran Nhan Tong (from Le Duan to Quang Trung), Trang Thi, Hang Khay, Trang Tien, Co Tan, Phan Chu Trinh (from Hai Ba Trung to Trang Tien), Le Thanh Tong, Tong Dan (from Ly Dao Thanh to Trang Tien), Tran Quang Khai, Tran Khanh Du, Quang Trung (from Ly Thuong Kiet to Trang Thi), Ly Thai To, Nguyen Huu Huan, Ngo Quyen (from State Bank Square to Trang Tien), Giang Vo, Lang Ha, and Lang (from Lang Ha to Tran Duy Hung).
During these times, traffic inside Ring Road 1, which encompasses downtown Hanoi including the Old Quarter, the Sword Lake and the West Lake, will be restricted to authorized vehicles only, including those with security clearance, vehicles serving the celebrations, priority vehicles, service vehicles, public buses, garbage trucks, and emergency vehicles.
In outer areas, trucks over 1.5 tons and passenger vehicles with more than 16 seats will face restrictions. Certain roads will also restrict commercial passenger vehicles under 16 seats, personal vehicles, and motorcycles.
The celebrations on Sept. 2 will feature a parade at Ba Dinh Square with a full display of military forces, including infantry, mechanized units, and air and naval forces. About 16,000 participants will take part, including 43 marching groups, 18 static formations, and 14 military and specialized vehicles.
Authorities recommend people use public transportation on that day, or walk, in areas around Ba Dinh Square and the Sword Lake, as well as downtown Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Giang Vo, and Ngoc Ha wards.
