A ‘humanitarian market’ model was launched at Bac Tu Liem District's Cultural, Information and Sports Centre in Hanoi on May 16, offering necessities for the local needy people who are facing difficulties amid the Covid-19 epidemic.

Organised by the Hanoi Red Cross Society, the programme also featured a voluntary blood donation drive in support of blood shortage for emergency and treatment at local hospitals.

The fair saw the presence of Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai, who also presented gifts to disadvantaged students at the event.

Speaking at the programme, Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee and Honorary Chairperson of the Hanoi Red Cross Ngo Thi Thanh Hang affirmed that, from the beginning of 2020, Hanoi has mobilised the participation of the entire political system and the local people in carrying the dual tasks of fighting the epidemic and resuming socio-economic development.

Praising the activities by the city's Red Cross in the prevention and control of Covid-19, Hang emphasised that these activities are meaningful, showing humanity in mobilising social resources for the city's humanitarian activities and social welfare policy.

Hang proposed that Hanoi Red Cross continue to promote the building of humanitarian funds to not only support Hanoians but also to help people in other provinces who are suffering difficulties, thus spreading human values for a better life.

At the ‘humanitarian market, disadvantaged people are given free gift vouchers by the organisers to use at five stalls selling food items such as rice, noodles, cooking oil and eggs.
