Record lychee prices boost sales

Updated: 16:32, 11/06/2026

BAC NINH - Lychee prices in Bac Ninh have reached record high this season while consumption remains strong, helping growers secure higher incomes despite a decline in output.

According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, prices for early-ripening lychees have ranged from 35,000 to 70,000 VND per kilogram since the start of the harvest season, while main-crop lychees have sold for between 55,000 and 90,000 VND per kilogram depending on market conditions.

As of June 9, the province had sold approximately 50,000 tonnes of lychees. The domestic market accounted for more than 61% of total sales volume, while exports represented nearly 39%.

China remained the largest export destination, importing about 18,500 tonnes. Bac Ninh lychees were also shipped to Canada, the United States, Japan and several European Union countries.

Export activities have benefited from priority customs clearance through “green lanes” at border gates serving the Chinese market, helping maintain the smooth flow of fresh fruit during the peak harvest period.

Revenue generated from lychee sales has so far exceeded 2.65 trillion VND (over 100 million USD), equivalent to around 72.5% of the total revenue recorded during the entire 2025 season, despite the current harvest still being in its early stages.

In 2026, Bac Ninh has nearly 29,800 hectares of lychee cultivation, with total output forecast at about 125,000 tonnes.

Although production is expected to decline compared with last year, favourable weather conditions have produced high-quality fruit, while early trade-promotion campaigns have helped sustain prices at record levels compared with previous seasons.

Industry officials expect prices for main-season lychees to continue rising in the coming weeks, further increasing incomes for growers across the province’s key production areas.
