Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 3 receives United Nations Medal for Peacekeeping Operations

Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 3 on July 24 received the United Nations Medal for Peacekeeping Operations, during a ceremony held at Highway Base under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

The ceremony was attended by senior leaders of the UNISFA mission, representatives from the Abyei Special Administrative Area, military contingents from contributing countries, a working delegation from Viet Nam’s Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Public Security, as well as all officers and staff members of the Vietnamese engineering unit.

The event began with an exhibition of photographs, cultural performances and a documentary showcasing the outstanding contributions of Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 3 during its deployment with the UNISFA mission.

The vivid images and footage highlighted the responsibilities, professionalism, dedication and quiet sacrifices of the Vietnamese peacekeepers for the cause of regional peace and stability.

Following congratulatory remarks in recognition of the Vietnamese contingent’s achievements, a UNISFA representative read the decision and formally presented the United Nations Medal for Peacekeeping Operations to all officers and staff members of the Engineering Unit Rotation 3.

In addition, several individuals from the inter-agency task force of the Ministry of National Defence and troops from other contributing countries were also honoured with this prestigious award in acknowledgement of their effective coordination and support in implementing mission tasks.

Speaking at the ceremony, Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Deputy Force Commander of UNISFA, expressed deep respect and high appreciation for the unwavering efforts of Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 3.

“It is a great honour to attend this medal presentation ceremony for Viet Nam’s Engineering Unit Rotation 3. This is a significant occasion recognising the valuable contributions and achievements of Vietnamese peacekeepers under the United Nations flag. You have not only performed your assigned duties with excellence but are also recognised as peacekeepers by the local community.”

According to Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, the Vietnamese unit has undertaken various tasks including building infrastructure, opening supply and patrol routes, repairing airports, and assisting residents of Abyei.

The Vietnamese engineers not only successfully fulfilled UNISFA’s mandates but also excelled in supporting the local community. The United Nations Medal for Peacekeeping Operations awarded is a well-deserved recognition of these valuable contributions.

Also attending the ceremony, Abionweng Majith, Minister of Peace and Reconciliation of Abyei, expressed her sincere gratitude and congratulations to the Vietnamese engineering unit for excellently completing its duties in Abyei.

“You have done many wonderful things for us, and we are truly grateful. You built high-quality roads that have changed the lives of many people,” she said.
