Bac Giang takes care of laborers
Could you please tell us improvements in employment and living conditions of workers in the province in recent years?
With the determination and efforts of the whole political system, business community, workers and people of all strata, over the past years, the province's socio-economic situation has seen remarkable changes in many fields, with many outstanding results achieved.

In general, in recent years, the employment of workers has been stable. Their salaries, incomes and living conditions have been gradually improved. The average per capita income reached 5 million VND per month in 2017, 5.5 million VND per month in 2018, and 6.2 million VND per month in 2019.
How has the Covid-19 pandemic affect jobs and lives of workers?
As of April 8, there were 45 businesses in the province affected by Covid-19, of which 16 resumed operations. As many as 2,897 workers in 29 enterprises had to take temporary leave, and 40 others had their labour contracts terminated.
The epidemic also made 156 workers off work to quarantine themselves at home, while three others had to be quarantined at health facilities. The number of laid-off workers had their salaries and incomes sharply reduced, affecting their daily lives and activities. Some laborers with terminated labor contracts have not yet found jobs so they are facing many difficulties in life.
Could you please tell us solutions taken by trade unions to support members and employees at this time?
Trade unions at all levels have mobilized support and used funds of businesses and trade unions to buy chemicals and thermometers for members and employees; while applying preventive measures in factories and kitchens...
They have encouraged workers to boost production and improve labor productivity to both combat the pandemic and achieve economic growth, thus ensuring employment and income. They have also persuaded laborers to join hands with businesses to overcome difficulties caused by the epidemic to stabilize production and business.
Trade unions at all levels were directed to closely monitor and promptly propose employers ensure jobs, regimes and policies according to regulations, especially the salary regime for employees who had to take leave and stop working and social insurance benefits for sick workers.
They were told to review, summarize and propose the competent authorities have support policies for cases such as: workers with extremely difficult circumstances and those coming from near-poor and poor households...
To take care of the province's human resources, in the long term, what measures will trade unions take?
To contribute to caring for laborers, trade unions at all levels in Bac Giang province will focus on the following tasks:
- Propose employers renovate technology and raise corporate governance capacity to create opportunities for employees to improve their qualifications and professional skills, and provide them with a good working environment.
- Actively propose and participate in the building of policies, laws, plans, programmes and training contents to improve knowledge and working skills for employees.
- Join employers in formulating rules, educating and mobilizing employees to follow regulations related to improving the quality of human resources of agencies, units and businesses.
- Proactively propose local resources of units and businesses to improve the quality of human resources; use trade union funds to contribute to improving the quality of human resources, firstly for training and improving the quality of grassroots-level trade union officials.
