Bac Ninh leverages trade promotion to boost consumption of local products

Updated: 07:04, 06/12/2025

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh authorities and producers of products under One Commune One Product programme (OCOP) and key local products have intensified trade promotion efforts in recent years, helping agricultural goods and rural industrial products reach wider markets and secure stable income for workers.

Traditional products expand their reach

The Thu Duong rice noodle craft village in Nam Duong commune has operated for decades, with 14 cooperatives now engaged in production and distribution.

To expand domestic and export markets, producers have upgraded technology, replacing manual processes with automated machines for steaming and cutting, shifting from coal and firewood to gas-powered ovens, and building hygienic drying houses and yards.

Many households have joined cooperatives to design packaging, register labels and establish distribution networks across provinces while partnering with companies to export Chu rice noodles to Laos, Cambodia and several European countries.

Trade promotion has become a central strategy for the village. The Nam The Chu Rice Noodle Production and Consumption Cooperative has taken part in more than 200 trade fairs and exhibitions since its founding in 2014. In 2025 alone, its products appeared at 25 fairs and international culinary festivals.

Deputy Director Nguyen Van Nam said the cooperative has two 3-star OCOP products, including Chu Nam The rice noodles made from Khang Dan rice and a premium version made from Bao Thai Hong rice. It plans to develop a 4-star brown rice noodle line in 2026 for health-conscious consumers.

“Participation in trade fairs has increased exposure for our rice noodles,” Nam said, noting that total output rose from more than 14,000 tonnes in 2024 to an estimated 17,000 tonnes in 2025. Profits for the village reached about 60 billion VND (2.6 million USD), while hundreds of workers earn 8–9 million VND per month.

Alongside trade fairs, many OCOP and outstanding rural industrial producers have promoted their goods at domestic festivals. At the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025, Ngoc Pottery from the 700-year-old Phu Lang craft village showcased products including its “incense burner and wellness candles” set, which was recognized as a provincial outstanding rural industrial product.

The festival featured more than 30 cultural and artistic activities, street performances and exhibitions. According to owner Doan Thi Ngoc, participating in festivals helps both promote sales and preserve the cultural heritage of traditional pottery.

At the 2025 International Culinary Culture Festival held at the Van Phuc Diplomatic Compound in Hanoi, visitors explored Bac Ninh’s OCOP and handicraft booths.

Natalia, an employee of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, said she had long known about Bac Ninh’s Quan ho folk songs but only recently discovered the province’s diverse specialties such as oranges, grapefruits, rice paper, rice noodles, Bui grilled fermented pork roll and Van village rice wine.

Expanding partnerships and trade

Authorities have worked alongside producers to organize and participate in trade promotion events. According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, dozens of cooperatives, businesses and rural producers showcasing hundreds of OCOP items, agricultural products and handicrafts joined 14 domestic and international trade fairs in 2025.

Key events included promotional programmes for lychees and specialty agricultural products in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces; the 2025 Tien Giang Fruit Festival; the 2025 Autumn Fair; the Vietnam - China International Trade Fair in Lao Cai; and exhibitions held alongside the 2025 Vietnam - Japan Local Cooperation Forum in Quang Ninh.

A major highlight is the Bac Ninh Fruit Festival 2025, held from December 5 to 10 with hundreds of booths and product display zones, drawing participation from Hanoi, Son La, Hung Yen, Lang Son, Hai Phong, Can Tho and others.

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Minh Hieu said trade fairs and festivals have strengthened the visibility of OCOP goods and key local products, showcasing their diversity, quality and distinctive identity. “These events create a positive impression on visitors, business partners and investors,” he said.

Such events also help businesses expand cooperation and secure product-consumption agreements through direct exchanges with importers, distributors and trade-promotion organisations. Producers can track market trends through workshops and exhibitions, adjust production to meet demand and improve competitiveness in regional and global markets.

Local authorities say robust participation in trade promotion programmes has enhanced the effectiveness of both the OCOP programme and the recognition of outstanding rural industrial products. The initiatives have encouraged innovation in agricultural processing and rural industrial production while providing sustainable income for rural workers.
