Bac Ninh ramps up longan exports to Australia through cooperatives, firms
BAC NINH - Officials from Bac Ninh’s departments of industry, agriculture and environment on August 27 visited longan production models and packaging facilities in Chu ward and Luc Son commune to promote the export of fresh longan fruit. Luc Son Cooperative, with 70 members and 50 hectares under longan cultivation — including more than 10 hectares certified under GlobalGAP standards — reported yields of around eight tonnes per hectare. For the first time this season, its fresh longan has been exported to Australia through The Garden Vietnam JSC.
Since the start of the harvest, the company has shipped 10 tonnes of longan to Australia and is preparing a second consignment of six tonnes. A company representative said it plans to continue working closely with cooperatives to expand sourcing, packaging and exports in the months ahead.

At Thanh Hai Cooperative, the delegation observed a pre-processing and packaging line for fresh longan, which has already been licensed with an export packaging code for the Australian market.
The cooperative has years of experience packaging lychee for export to Europe. It currently processes about one tonne of fruit per day that meets Australian import standards.
Officials praised the cooperatives for applying production models based on orchard codes and cooperative structures, while linking farmers with enterprises under value chain commitments.
They also commended the initiative of local companies in forming export partnerships, calling the shipments to Australia a milestone for Bac Ninh’s longan industry.
Provincial departments pledged continued support to create favorable conditions for expanding exports of longan, one of Bac Ninh’s major agricultural products.

Bac Ninh province has a total of 3,641 hectares of longan, with estimated output this season of 24,183 tonnes. Of this, late-season longan accounts for more than 600 hectares.
Around 2,500 hectares are cultivated under VietGAP standards, while over 10 hectares meet GlobalGAP requirements. Harvesting runs from July 25 to September 20, with about 12,000 tonnes already collected, mainly in Luc Son, Dong Ky and Phuong Son.
The shipments also reflect Vietnam’s broader efforts to diversify export markets and add value to its agricultural sector.
Officials said they expect more shipments to Australia in the coming weeks, while negotiations are ongoing to open additional markets for Bac Ninh’s fruit.
