Bac Ninh expects over 24,000 tonnes of longan in 2025 harvest

Updated: 14:12, 29/07/2025

BAC NINH – The northern province of Bac Ninh is forecast to harvest over 24,000 tonnes of longan fruit this year, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment. With favorable weather conditions during the crop season, local farmers have enjoyed a bountiful harvest.

As of late July, roughly 300 tonnes of early-season longan had been harvested, with market prices ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 VND per kilogram. Compared to the same period last year, prices have remained relatively stable.

The northern province of Bac Ninh is forecast to harvest over 24,000 tonnes of longan fruit this year.

Nguyen Danh Muon, a farmer from Luc Son commune and a representative of the local Agricultural Service Cooperative, said the cooperative has expanded its growing area to over 50 hectares this year. Of that, 20 hectares are cultivated under VietGAP standards, using synchronized farming techniques to ensure food safety and product quality.

Output from the VietGAP-certified area is estimated at around 50 tonnes, with contracted purchase prices ranging from 30,000 to 40,000 VND per kilogram—higher than traditionally grown fruit.

Several companies have already visited the region to evaluate the orchards and plan to purchase Luc Son longan for export to markets including Australia and China.

Experts say that the VietGAP longan model has helped Bac Ninh farmers boost the value of their agricultural products. Beyond meeting food safety requirements, VietGAP-certified longans are traceable, making them more appealing to domestic supermarkets and online retailers.

In recent months, Bac Ninh’s Department of Agriculture and Environment has worked with other provincial agencies to promote local specialty produce. Their campaigns have helped connect suppliers with broader markets, resulting in strong sales volumes—especially for longan during the peak season.

Authorities are encouraging cooperatives and farmer groups to adopt safe and high-quality farming practices, develop planting area codes and packaging facility codes, and meet the standards required for both domestic consumption and export markets.
