Bac Ninh steps up semiconductor cooperation with Amkor Technology in Incheon

BAC NINH - A delegation from the Northern province of Bac Ninh on April 24 met with global semiconductor group Amkor Technology in Incheon city (Republic of Korea), seeking to deepen cooperation and expand investment in the chip industry.

The delegation was led by Nguyen Hong Thai, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee and Secretary of the Bac Ninh Party Committee.

They were received by Lee Jin An, Chief Executive Officer of Amkor, along with Kim Sung Hoon, General Director of Amkor Vietnam, and senior executives in charge of production, environment, safety, logistics, human resources and research and development.

Amkor is one of the world’s leading providers of semiconductor packaging and testing services. In Bac Ninh, the company inaugurated its first semiconductor plant in Vietnam in October 2023 with an initial investment of 529 million USD.

The provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai pledges the most favorable conditions for Amkor to expand in Bac Ninh.

In July 2024, the province granted an amended investment certificate to Amkor Technology Vietnam Co., Ltd., raising the total registered capital to 1.6 billion USD.

Speaking at the meeting, Lee Jin An said Amkor’s project in Vietnam is operating stably and gradually expanding production capacity, contributing to the group’s global supply chain.

He praised Bac Ninh’s investment climate, workforce quality and continued support during project implementation, and affirmed the company’s intention to further study expansion plans in the future.

The provincial Party Chief Nguyen Hong Thai congratulated Amkor on its positive investment and business results, noting that Bac Ninh has favorable conditions for developing high-tech industries, particularly semiconductors.

He cited the province’s strategic location, rapidly improving transport and industrial infrastructure, open investment environment and strong commitment to supporting businesses.

He added that semiconductors are a priority sector in Bac Ninh’s development strategy for 2025–2030.

The Amkor project is expected not only to be a large-scale investment but also to act as a “magnet” attracting supporting industries, gradually forming a local semiconductor ecosystem.

Provincial leaders pledged continued support and the best possible conditions for Amkor’s operations in Bac Ninh, while expressing hope that the group will expand investment, enhance technology transfer and help Vietnamese firms, including those in Bac Ninh, integrate more deeply into global supply chains.

The working session in Incheon highlighted Bac Ninh’s proactive efforts to attract high-quality investment and reaffirmed its determination to develop the semiconductor industry as part of its goal to become a key growth pole in northern Vietnam.
