Friendship imbued schools

Updated: 07:18, 28/12/2019
(BGO) – Thanks to the non-governmental aid, many schools in the difficult localities in the northern province of Bac Giang have been upgraded with more facilities and equipment for educational activities.

Happiness of new school

Previously, the facility at Ngoc Tan satellite location in Ngoc Son Primary School (Hiep Hoa district) was seriously degraded because it was built 20 years ago. There were only 2 low and narrow classrooms with soil floor. Due to the difficulties in the communal budget, it had not been revamped for years.

Acknowledging the situation, the Asia Education and Friendship Association of Japan (AEFA) supported Ngoc Tan satellite school to revamp and upgrade its facilities with total cost of over 1.1 billion VND (47,597 USD) in April 2019 via the Hanoi based Center for Research and Sustainable Development Communication and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DoFA).

Bac Giang province had 40 schools which were built, revamped, upgraded and provided with more educational equipment totally worth over 17.4 billion VND (752,900 USD) by the non-governmental organizations (NGO) in 2018 and 2019.

After 5 month construction, the landscape is changed thoroughly with 3 new classrooms, 2 repaired ones as well as clean and modern toilets.

The Head Mistress Pham Thi Hoan said: “The long time dream of a spacious school is now realized. Ngoc Tan satellite school welcomes 170 students in the academic year 2019 - 2020”. Also in Hiep Hoa district, AEFA helped Hoang Van and Chau Minh communes to build many new classrooms.

At Dong Viet Secondary School (Yen Dung district), there was no filter though the local water source is iron contaminated. Knowing this matter, the U.S Latter Day Saint Charities (LDSC) sponsored a clean water project and handed over it to the school in July 2019, helping improve the school sanitation.

It was built with total cost of nearly 280 million VND (12,100 USD), 90 percent of which was from the LDSC’s non-refundable aid and 10 percent was mobilized from the local source.

Joining hand in preservation

The NGOs have recently conducted thorough survey at the funded addresses which are normally located at the remote area with disadvantage facilities while it is hard to mobilized the expenses from the difficult local budget and residents. Thus, the friendship imbued schools are warmly welcomed by the locals.

The sponsors’ belief is more and more reinforced when the projects have been preserved and effectively used. At Ngoc Son Primary School, together with the aid to build and repair the big items, the school authorities continued calling for the local residents to donate more expense and man dates to repair the schoolyard, surrounding wall, school gate, parking station and beautify the landscape.
