The coffee is topped with a Turtle Tower motif made of cocoa and served in a gold-trimmed cup, saucer, and spoon. |
The beverage comes in a cup adorned with 24k gold around the rim and handle. The matching saucer and spoon are also trimmed or coated in gold. In addition to egg coffee, the restaurant serves salted coffee topped with gold, also priced at VND150,000 ($5.74).
Barista Ta Phuong Anh says the drink blends three types of coffee to enhance the aroma of egg. After steeping the coffee in hot water for 30-45 minutes, it is whipped with egg yolk for 10 to 15 minutes to create a foamy layer. Edible gold flakes are sprinkled on top just before serving.
Made fresh to order, the drink requires a short wait.
Since it contains egg, Anh recommends drinking it while it is still hot. The gold used is food-grade and certified as safe to consume.
According to Hoang Quoc Viet, head of the hotel's restaurant team, F29 opened in 2021, and gold egg coffee was one of the first items on the menu, and, along with gold-coated steak, remains one of its signature and best-selling items.
"Eight out of 10 guests order the gold egg coffee."
The customers range from international travelers to visitors from southern Vietnam and nearby provinces.
Thuy Linh, a guest trying the drink for the first time, called it the most delicious and visually stunning egg coffee she has ever had.
"It's rich from the egg, bitter from the coffee, and looks luxurious with the gold."

Devansh, a 34-year-old visitor from India, said egg coffee was his favorite drink during his two-month stay in Hanoi.
Gold egg coffee draws inspiration from Giang-style egg coffee, a Hanoi culinary staple since the 1940s. Traditionally, it is made by whipping egg yolk with condensed milk, sugar and butter until frothy before being served atop hot coffee.
A small spoon is offered so guests can first taste the foam before sipping the drink. Giang Café is credited with creating the original recipe.
The drink's gold matches the hotel's gold-themed design: It holds a world record recognized by WorldKings in 2020 for having more than 400,000 gold-plated decorations.
