Over 3,000 runners worldwide attend “Yen Tu Heritage Marathon 2025, touching the heritage area”

BAC NINH- On November 16 morning, more than 3,000 domestic and international athletes attended the running race themed “Yen Tu Heritage Marathon 2025, touching the heritage area” at Yen Tu historical relic site and landscape (Yen Tu ward, Quang Ninh province).

The tournament was jointly held by the People’s Committee of Yen Tu ward, Quang Ninh Journalists Association and Vietnam Simple Service Company Limited.

This event was more meaningful when the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiep Bac Relics and Landscape Complex, stretching through the provinces and cities of Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong, was recognised by UNESCO as the world heritage.

Of which, Tay Yen Tu space, the center of Truc Lam Zen Sect is a special highlight, affirming the unique spiritual, cultural and historical values of the sacred land on the side of Yen Tu mountain range.

This year tournament brought together a big number of athletes from 11 countries including the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Philippines, South Africa, China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Taiwan creating a lively panorama of cultural exchange in the heart of the heritage.

Many runners expressed their strong impression about the ancient and sacred space as well as the pure atmosphere in Tay Yen Tu area, where preserves the vestige of the Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong’s pilgrimage in the 13th century.

The 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km racetracks led runners crossing the most beautiful routes of Yen Tu, from Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Monastery and Cam Thuc pagoda to Suoi Tam pagoda, a colorful landscape in the bell-flower blooming season.

Each step is not only a physical challenge, but it is also a journey to “touch the heritage area” and discover the depth of Tay Yen Tu’s culture, the cradle of Truc Lam Zen Sect imbued with Vietnamese identity.

“The running race will be held annually with a hope that each participant will contribute to spreading wonderful experiences about Yen Tu to domestic and international friends”, said Pham Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Tu ward, Head of the Organising Committee.

The running race helped to promote the image of Tay Yen Tu, which is dynamic, strong and rich in cultural and historical values, becoming an attractive destination for tourists and sport lovers.

The Organising Committee awarded many sets of prizes for outstanding runners at first, second, third, fourth and fifth levels.
