It attributed the rise to burgeoning demand, big discounts, low shipping fees, and sellers’ higher spending on livestreaming and short-form video content to stimulate demand.
shopee remained the biggest platform, accounting for 56% of gross merchandise value during the nine months, followed by TikTok Shop with 41%.
Shopee’s partnership with YouTube has proven successful with 2.4 million products linked to the video platform.
Last week Shopee announced a partnership with Meta, which will make it easier for Facebook customers to buy Shopee items on livestreams.
TikTok continued to focus on selling via videos and livestreams. A campaign in the northern mountain province of Lai Chau achieved sales of 300 tons of potatoes in September and October.
Lazada has maintained a steady 3% market share and was the platform with the strongest growth in average order value over the past nine months.
It has been partnering with several milk brands and South Korean retailer G-Market to add 20 million more products to its platform.
Metric expects fourth quarter gross merchandise value for the four platforms to rise by 15% year-on-year. Fashion, beauty, household goods, and groceries-food are forecast to maintain the lead in sales.
