Vocational schools in Bac Ninh adapt to meet labor market demand

Updated: 15:00, 05/08/2025

BAC NINH – Amid rapid industrial development, Bac Ninh has emerged as a major labor market, prompting local vocational colleges to revamp training methods and align curricula with business needs—especially those of foreign-invested enterprises.

In April 2025, the 13th cohort of students in the Industrial Electronics Department at Bac Ninh College of Industry graduated.

While many prepared to enter the workforce, student Duc Cuong was getting ready to study abroad in Taiwan (China), majoring in AI applied to electronics. He received a full scholarship under a school-business partnership programme.

Earlier, in August 2024, Bac Ninh College of Industry held a special graduation event where all 30 students in a German-supported mechanical engineering programme secured jobs before receiving their certificates.

The three-year course, offered under the Vietnam-Germany cooperation programme, featured 10 integrated modules using project-based learning. It combined classroom instruction with hands-on experience in collaboration with enterprises.

The college established strategic councils and advisory boards involving 15 companies in the metal cutting industry to guide its curriculum. It also trained business engineers in pedagogy and safety, developed teaching materials and promoted co-teaching models where enterprise professionals taught alongside school instructors.

This dual-training model enabled students to engage with both theory and practice from their first year. Supervised by qualified teachers and enterprise engineers, students received continuous feedback, extensive workshop practice and soft-skill development. All 30 graduates met high competency standards and achieved a 100% employment rate immediately upon graduation.

Driven by career prospects and industry-aligned programmes, more high school graduates are choosing vocational colleges. One example is Vu Quang Huy, a 1998-born graduate of the Vietnam-Korea Vocational College of Technology in Bac Giang ward. After completing an electrical-electronics programme, Huy quickly found a job in Van Trung Industrial Park with a monthly salary of 30 million VND.

To boost job-readiness, vocational institutions are aligning training content with employer requirements. This involves closer collaboration with high schools, universities and enterprises to reform teaching models enhance career orientation and ensure a stable supply of skilled labor.

Businesses and schools now regularly share training capacities and recruitment needs to shape joint programmes. Through these partnerships, students participate in internships and workplace learning—experiences that significantly influence their skills, knowledge and work ethic.

This exposure to real-world production processes helps students transition smoothly into specific roles on manufacturing lines after graduation.

Alongside domestic efforts, international cooperation is playing an increasing role in upgrading training quality. Many vocational schools are partnering with global organizations such as GIZ (Germany) and the Kenan Foundation Asia to implement international-standard programmes. Initiatives focus on digital transformation, green practices and advanced models like digital schools, 5S methodology and enterprise-integrated training systems.

As a result, the overall quality of vocational training in Bac Ninh is steadily improving.

According to the provincial Department of Education and Training, Bac Ninh currently hosts 113 vocational education providers. Of these, 87 are based in the province, while 26 operate joint training programmes locally.

In the first half of 2025, these institutions recruited over 53,000 learners—about 53% of the annual plan. This included 573 college-level students, 1,903 intermediate-level students, 27,850 for short-term and regular training, and nearly 23,000 enterprise-trained workers.

By modernizing training methods and strengthening ties with employers and international partners, vocational schools in Bac Ninh are producing a workforce that is not only technically proficient but also equipped with essential soft skills—meeting labor demands and enhancing business productivity.
