Bac Giang maintains fast, sustainable growth, devises socio-economic development orientations

(BGO) - In 2018, with the high determination of the whole Party Committee, authorities, business community and people of ethnic groups throughout the province, Bac Giang recorded comprehensive and outstanding socio-economic results, contributing to successfully fulfilling 8 out of 17 targets set in the Resolution of the 18th Congress of the provincial Party Organisation. Some targets saw high outcome, naming the province in the leading group in the country.

Following the growth momentum in previous years, the province's economic growth rate in 2018 reached 16 percent, the highest ever so far and ranking third in the country. The scale of the economy has been expanding, with total production, trade and services value (actual price) reaching nearly 253.9 trillion VND (10.9 billion USD).

The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) hit 88.26 trillion VND (3.8 billion USD), 1.7 times higher than that in 2015, while per capita income reached 2,300 USD, equivalent to 90.6 percent of the national average (in 2017 it was 81.1 percent). 

The economic structure shifted towards industrialization, with the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery decreasing to 19.34 percent and agricultural labor down to 41.6 percent. The material and spiritual lives of local people improved and the poverty rate declined to 7.29 percent.

Among the production sectors, the industry continued playing the role as a growth locomotive, with a rate of 27.76 percent. Its production value reached 158.5 trillion VND (6.8 billion USD), 2.7 times higher than that of 2015. The infrastructure of industrial zones and clusters was invested. Four more industrial clusters were established. Transport, power, water, wastewater treatment and environmental protection facilities were developed synchronously. 

Agriculture saw comprehensive development and achieved the highest growth in the past 20 years, at 6.5 percent. The value of agricultural production reached 103.5 million VND per ha, higher than the national average. The province maintained the largest lychee area in the country as well as ranked third and fourth nationwide in the total number of pigs and chicken, respectively.

Regarding the construction of new-style rural areas, Bac Giang ranked second among 15 northern mountainous provinces with one district and 89 communes meeting new-style rural standards. The province’s budget collection as of December 20, 2016, reached nearly 9.2 trillion VND (398.7 million USD), up 45 percent compared to 2017. The investment and business environment has been improved, with many projects expanding production with total additional capital of 336 million USD, 2.5 times higher than that of 2017.

Culture and society had many changes while education and training remained in the top group of the country. After 11 years, Bac Giang had students winning medals in international exams. Due attention was paid to public health care and the coverage of universal health insurance reached 98.5 percent, making the province one of the leading localities in the country in this field.

2019 is the decisive year in implementing the objectives set by the 18th Congress of the provincial Party Organisation, creating momentum for Bac Giang to develop in the next period. The province strives to achieve economic growth of 16 percent and sets out many feasible tasks and solutions suitable to the new situation, focusing on a number of tasks:

Firstly, focusing on well implementing the planning work, renovating the economic growth model, and attracting investment in combination with extensive and intensive development; reviewing land funds for industrial development to submit to the Government for consideration; speeding up investment in infrastructure in industrial zones and clusters, transport, electricity and water supply facilities and environmental treatment infrastructure in combination with enhancing the mobilization of social resources; arranging appropriate resources to invest in upgrading infrastructure of educational and health care establishments in order to better meet the needs of the people.

Secondly, continuing to improve the investment and business environment, and creating favorable conditions for business development and investment attraction, with a focus on reviewing investment incentive policies and mechanisms in the locality. Based on that, studying and proposing policies of Bac Giang to attract big investors with the potential to invest in the province, and encourage enterprises to directly invest in agriculture or form cooperatives where enterprises are the core, as well as pour cash into a large-scale tourist, entertainment and resort projects. Focusing on supporting large companies and corporations in exploring investment opportunities in the province.

Thirdly, drastically implementing measures to collect budget, ensuring the right, full and timely collection of income sources. Increasing income sources, especially those from the business sector, towards sustainable budget collection growth.

Fourthly, focusing on directing the fixing of shortcomings, and creating changes in monitoring and inspecting activities of investment projects and businesses as well as emerging issues over the past time. Strengthening land management and improving the efficiency of using land and mineral resources.

Fifth, raising the responsibilities of heads of sectors and agencies, and maintaining administrative disciplines; stepping up decentralization associated with the mechanism of close inspection and supervision to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management. Strictly implementing the policy of streamlining apparatus and personnel according to Plan No. 47-KH /TU of the Stand Board of the provincial Standing Committee.

Bac Giang’s Fatherland Front’s leaders visit Catholics on Christmas occasion
(BGO) - On Christmas occasion 2018, representatives of the provincial Fatherland Front and the Committee for solidarity of Catholics of Bac Giang province visited and offered Christmas greetings to the Catholic dignitaries and followers of the parishes of Thiet Nham in Viet Yen district, My Loc in Lang Giang district, Ngo Xa in Hiep Hoa district, Dai Lam and Tien Nha in Luc Nam district from 14 to 19 December.  
 
Provincial leaders attend great national unity festival in localities
(BGO) – The provincial leaders on November 16 – 17 attended the great national unity festival in several localities in the northern province of Bac Giang on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) November 18 (1930 – 2018).

(BGO) – Nguyen Van Linh, Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee (PPC) and Head of provincial Traffic Safety Board (TSB) on November 7 visited and encouraged two families who lost their relatives in traffic accidents in Bac Giang city. 
 
Provincial leader visits special disadvantaged households in Luc Nam district
(BGO) – The Red Cross Society (RCS) in the northern province of Bac Giang on August 29 organized a programme to present gifts to the special disadvantaged households in Luc Nam district at the hall of district People’s Committee.
