Bac Ninh brings cultural identity to national exhibition

Updated: 20:39, 23/08/2025

BAC NINH - The exhibition “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” will open at the National Exhibition and Fair Center in Dong Anh, Hanoi from August 28 to September 5. Among the 34 participating provinces, cities and organizations, Bac Ninh has prepared a distinctive display under the theme “Bac Ninh – a thousand years of culture, aspiration for the new era.”

The province’s pavilion, designed by People’s Artist Nguyen Dat Tang, is expected to be a highlight of the event. With a modern and creative approach, Tang has transformed the space into a visual narrative that tells the story of Bac Ninh’s history, culture and future ambitions.

The design draws inspiration from the land of Kinh Bac, renowned for its deep cultural heritage and revolutionary traditions. Bac Ninh today is also one of the leading provinces in economic scale, aiming to become a hub of high technology.

Reflecting this dual identity, the exhibition combines contemporary artistic language with symbolic elements of traditional culture.

At the heart of the space, stylized images of the Non quai thao hat (traditional hat) create circular patterns above while below runs the image of the Cau River.

Together, these motifs evoke the heritage of Quan ho folk songs, a hallmark of Kinh Bac culture, and the enduring river that has witnessed centuries of history.

The pavilion culminates in the soaring image of a phoenix, symbolizing Bac Ninh’s ambition to rise and thrive in a new era.

The exhibition covers 345 square meters and is organized into six interconnected sections: Bac Ninh in national history, achievements in politics, economy, science and technology, culture and society, defense and security and finally, the dynamism and creativity of its people.

Each zone is designed with clarity and artistry, brought together under a modern, open layout.

Advanced presentation technologies will be used throughout the pavilion, including LED screens, interactive LED mesh and VRA360 projections combined with striking light effects.

These tools aim to create an immersive experience for visitors, allowing them to engage with the stories of Bac Ninh in a fresh and appealing way.

A centerpiece of the exhibition is the LED installation representing the Cau River, complete with a rotating model that links both sides of the cultural landscape.

Above, a 10-meter-wide structure stylized from the traditional Non quai thao provides a cultural anchor.

At the far end, a panoramic 25-meter LED screen shaped as a phoenix’s wings will showcase Bac Ninh’s tourism potential, key achievements, and major events, affirming its position in the nation’s development journey.

For Tang, the challenge was to convey Bac Ninh’s rich heritage within the limited space of an exhibition booth while ensuring the display remained modern and engaging.

By distilling the province’s essence into symbolic forms and integrating advanced technology, the pavilion reflects both tradition and modernity without overwhelming the audience.

The artist emphasizes that the exhibition is not just a stage for artistic display, but a synthesis of cultural storytelling, commemoration, and aspiration. It is intended to honor Bac Ninh’s achievements, highlight its cultural roots, and express its vision of future growth.

Visitors stepping into the space will be invited to immerse themselves in Bac Ninh’s cultural flow, while also witnessing its transformation into a dynamic, prosperous industrial center.

As Tang notes, the project carries special emotional weight for him, shaped by his admiration for the land and people of Bac Ninh.

With its unique blend of heritage and modern vision, the Bac Ninh pavilion promises to leave a lasting impression on visitors to the national exhibition, embodying the province’s journey from thousand-year cultural cradle to an ambitious center of innovation and development.
