Currently, Bac Ninh has around 184,000 hectares of farmland, including 117,300 hectares for annual crops and 66,700 hectares for perennials. Fruit orchards cover 53,900 hectares, with 33,400 hectares cultivated in concentrated zones. The province has issued 400 planting area codes and 43 packaging codes to serve export markets.
By 2026, Bac Ninh province aims to expand lychee cultivation to 29,800 hectares with an output of 160,000 tonnes. Of this, 8,200 hectares will produce 60,000 tonnes of early-harvest lychees.
VietGAP-standard lychees are expected to cover 17,500 hectares with 125,000 tonnes. GlobalGAP-standard cultivation will remain at 235 hectares, while organic lychee farms will cover 10 hectares. Authorities have digitized 181 growing areas covering 4,655 hectares.
Delegates at the meeting cited difficulties in production, processing and distribution, and called for more farmer training. They urged the provincial Science and Technology Department to work with research institutes on developing new crop varieties, better cultivation techniques and off-season harvesting to boost value.
The local authorities asked the provincial Plant Production and Protection Division to propose software for managing planting and packaging codes, standardize processes for each crop to meet export requirements.
The province also called for expanded negotiations to export fruits to Europe, the Americas and Asia. Enterprises and cooperatives were urged to adopt HACCP and comply with food safety standards for exports.
Concluding the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman tasked the Science and Technology Department with merging the traceability systems of former Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces into a single platform linked to the national system and to publish the online access point for businesses and farmers.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will coordinate with the Plant Production and Protection Division to train growers in bio-safe farming and sustainable practices.
