Speaking at the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman Mai Son said the Tien Phong National Marathon and Long-Distance Championship is one of Vietnam’s longest-running athletics competitions, first held in 1958.
After 67 editions, the event has become one of the most prestigious competitions in the national athletics system, drawing many of the country’s top professional and amateur runners.
Bac Ninh’s selection as host for the 2027 edition, he said, is both an honor and an opportunity for the province to promote its image as a culturally rich land in the Kinh Bac region, while highlighting its dynamic economic development and tourism potential.
Representatives of Tien Phong newspaper said that after field surveys, Bac Ninh was considered a suitable venue thanks to its well-developed transport infrastructure, urban landscape and tourism services.
The province also boasts a large and distinctive cultural heritage system, which could help create an attractive and safe race route while showcasing local identity.
The newspaper expressed its hope to work closely with provincial authorities to organize a professional and large-scale competition that would set a new benchmark in both sporting quality and communication impact.
The marathon is expected to take place in March 2027 and include several competition categories such as the full marathon, half marathon and other distance events under the national athletics competition system. Organizers expect between 12,000 and 15,000 professional and amateur runners to participate.
In addition to the races, a range of accompanying activities are planned, including a national flag-raising ceremony, thematic seminars, tourism and cultural promotion programs, OCOP product fairs and social welfare activities. These events aim to create a vibrant festival atmosphere and further promote Bac Ninh’s cultural and tourism offerings.
Concluding the meeting, the PPC Vice Chairman Mai Son said Bac Ninh has experience hosting many major sporting events at both national and international levels and is capable of meeting the requirements needed to successfully organize the marathon.
He called on Tien Phong newspaper to continue coordinating closely with the province in both organizational and communication efforts. The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was assigned to lead coordination with relevant agencies and the newspaper to finalize a memorandum of cooperation for the event.
