Export boom drives Bac Ninh to top spot nationwide
BAC NINH - Bac Ninh has emerged as a powerhouse in Vietnam’s northern industrial hub, posting a strong surge in exports following its recent merger. Alongside industry, the province’s farm produce exports have also gained momentum, underscoring both internal strengths and the flexibility of local businesses.
In the first eight months of 2025, Bac Ninh’s total trade was estimated at more than 112 billion USD. Exports reached 57.3 billion USD, up 27.16% year-on-year, while imports climbed 34.35% to 54.6 billion USD.

The trade balance posted a surplus of 2.7 billion USD. The province continued to cement its role as a center for high-tech industrial exports, particularly phones, components and electronics.
A milestone came in July, when Bac Ninh’s exports hit 8.67 billion USD, surpassing Ho Chi Minh City to rank first nationwide. The momentum carried into August, with exports of 8.7 billion USD, marking two straight months on top since the merger.

Samsung remains the largest investor in Bac Ninh and the main driver of its exports. According to Roh Tae Moon, CEO of Samsung Electronics, the group’s total investment in Vietnam has reached 23.2 billion USD, of which nearly 11 billion USD is in Bac Ninh.
Since production began in April 2009, its plants in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen have manufactured two billion mobile phones, accounting for half of global output. Samsung’s exports represent 14% of Vietnam’s total.
Officials from the provincial industrial zone authority attributed the robust growth to the combined strength of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, now a major national production and export hub.
Local firms have actively sought new partners and contracts, boosting output and driving the industrial production index (IIP) up 16.19% in the eight-month period. Exports to markets with free trade agreements—including China, the United States, the European Union, Japan and South Korea—also recorded strong growth.

Beyond industry, Bac Ninh’s agricultural exports show promising prospects. Entering the 2025 lychee season with confidence, the province set out to reinforce its brand both at home and abroad.
As a result, lychee exports hit a record 78,200 tonnes, accounting for 38% of the province’s total output. Major markets include China, the United States, Japan, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
This year marked the first time Bac Ninh promoted lychees in Europe, seen as a market with vast potential. Experts forecast strong growth in global demand, with Vietnamese lychees—including those from Bac Ninh—expected to win wider international recognition.
Longan is another key crop and 2025 saw the first shipments to Australia. Bac Ninh currently has 3,641 hectares of longan with an estimated output of 24,183 tonnes, concentrated in Luc Son, Dong Ky and Phuong Son communes.
The province has issued 35 planting area codes covering 607 hectares: 15 codes (389 ha) for China, five codes (53 ha) for the U.S., five codes (53 ha) for Japan and 10 codes (111 ha) for Australia.
With its vast industrial and agricultural capacity, Bac Ninh still has ample room to grow exports. Provincial authorities have pledged to keep expanding and diversifying markets, a key strategy to drive economic growth in 2025 and beyond.
