Updated: 11:33, 12/08/2025

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh province surpassed Ho Chi Minh City in July to become Vietnam’s top exporter for the first time, following the merger of provincial-level administrative units earlier this year.

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s goods exports reached 42.29 billion USD in July, up 7% or 2.76 billion USD from a year earlier. Cumulative exports in the first seven months of 2025 rose 14.8% year-on-year to 262.46 billion USD, an increase of 33.92 billion USD.

Notably, in the first month after the country’s 34 provincial-level units – comprising 28 provinces and six centrally-run cities – began operating under the new administrative model, export rankings by locality saw significant changes.

Bac Ninh posted nearly 8.68 billion USD in exports in July, overtaking long-time leader Ho Chi Minh City, whose exports fell to 7.81 billion USD, about 870 million USD lower.

Other provinces in the top five for July included Hai Phong with 4.15 billion USD, Phu Tho with 3.22 billion USD, and Dong Nai with 3.18 billion USD.

For the January–July period, Ho Chi Minh City retained the top position nationwide with 53.08 billion USD in exports, followed by Bac Ninh with 48.62 billion USD, Hai Phong with 24.86 billion USD, Dong Nai with 19.56 billion USD, and Phu Tho with 19.54 billion USD.

Together, these five localities accounted for 165.66 billion USD in exports, or 63% of Vietnam’s total shipments in the first seven months.
