Former Samsung Vietnam General Director awarded third-class Labour Order
BAC NINH - Samsung Vietnam on July 23 held a ceremony at its SEV plant in Yen Phong Industrial Park to confer the Vietnamese State’s third-class Labour Order on Choi Joo Ho, former General Director of Samsung Vietnam (2018-2025).
The event was attended by Nguyen Van Gau, Secretary of Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee (PPC); Vuong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Huong Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee; and Pham Van Thinh, Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh provincial People’s Committee and Head of the province’s National Assembly delegation.

Samsung currently operates six factories, one R&D centre and one sales entity in Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Phones produced in Vietnam account for 50% of Samsung’s global output, exporting to 128 countries and territories.

In 2024, Samsung Vietnam’s export turnover reached over 54 billion USD, representing more than 14% of Vietnam’s total export value, with total revenue at 62.5 billion USD and over 83,000 employees. Alongside production, Samsung Vietnam has actively engaged in social welfare and workers’ wellbeing initiatives.
Choi Joo Ho served as General Director from December 2018, overseeing all Samsung manufacturing operations in Vietnam and representing the company in its cooperation with the government and local authorities.

He is credited with significant contributions to Vietnam’s education sector and social programmes, as well as spearheading the successful establishment of Samsung Vietnam’s R&D centre (SRV), the company’s largest in Southeast Asia, helping Vietnam become a strategic global research hub for Samsung.
In his speech, Choi Joo Ho expressed honour at receiving the Labour Order, attributing it to strong support from Bac Ninh province. He emphasised that Samsung’s success in Vietnam was facilitated by local leadership’s prompt resolution of difficulties.
“This medal is not my personal achievement but a noble gift from Vietnam to Samsung,” he said.
The PPC Secretary Nguyen Van Gau congratulated Choi Joo Ho, saying the award recognises his contributions to Vietnam’s economic development and bilateral friendship. He expressed hope that the former General Director Choi would achieve further success in his new role.
Before the ceremony, provincial leaders toured Samsung’s factory and were briefed on its investment journey in Bac Ninh and Vietnam. The PPC Secretary affirmed that Bac Ninh regards Samsung as a strategic partner and model of effective cooperation with foreign-invested enterprises, citing the company as proof of high-tech, environmentally friendly industrial development and ecosystem building.
He added that following administrative merger reforms, Bac Ninh has great development potential, with plans to commence construction of Gia Binh International Airport and expressways, positioning the province as a leading industrial hub in northern Vietnam and nationwide.

The provincial Party Chief called for Samsung’s continued partnership in socio-economic development, expanding production scale, supporting Vietnamese firms to join Samsung’s supply chains, and promoting Bac Ninh’s image and investment environment to Korean investors. The province committed to creating the best conditions for Samsung’s business operations.
At the ceremony, authorised by the President of Vietnam, PPC Secretary Nguyen Van Gau and Chairman Vuong Quoc Tuan presented the third-class Labour Order to Choi Joo Ho.
