Bac Ninh accelerates work on key Xuong Giang bridge project

Updated: 14:58, 17/09/2025

BAC NINH - Construction of the new Xuong Giang bridge unit across the Thuong River on the Hanoi–Bac Giang expressway is being fast-tracked, with authorities aiming to open the bridge to traffic this December.

Launched in February 2025, the project is considered one of key transport developments in the northern province of Bac Ninh. More than 150 workers and engineers are currently on site, working day and night, including weekends and holidays, to complete major tasks such as girder installation, formwork assembly and support scaffolding.

The bridge is part of a broader government-backed programme to upgrade and expand several bridges and tunnels along National Highway 1, including those in Bac Ninh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh. The Xuong Giang project alone carries an investment of more than 170 billion VND (about 7.5 million USD) from the state budget.

According to the design, the bridge spans 0.301 km within a total length of 0.96 km including approach roads. It will feature three lanes of reinforced and prestressed concrete with a width of 16.5 metres, while connecting roads will expand to four lanes with a roadbed width of 33 metres.

The project is managed by the Railway Project Management Board under the Ministry of Construction, with Truong Son Construction Investment JSC and Giang Son Construction JSC serving as contractors.

Officials expect the bridge structure to be joined in mid-November and opened for technical use on December 19, ahead of schedule.

Once complete, the new bridge will ease chronic congestion on the Xuong Giang crossing, improve traffic flow on the Hanoi–Bac Giang route, and further boost trade and socio-economic development in Bac Ninh province.
