Bac Ninh leader seeks stronger ties with Guangxi Foreign Affairs Office

Updated: 11:06, 17/07/2025

BAC NINH – Standing Vice Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) Mai Son on 16 July held talks with a delegation from China’s Guangxi Foreign Affairs Office led by Director Wei Ran to discuss economic, trade and cultural cooperation.

During the meeting at Bac Ninh’s provincial headquarters, PPC Vice Chairman Mai Son briefed the Chinese delegation on the recent merger of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces on July 1, 2025.

The newly expanded Bac Ninh province has achieved significant socio-economic progress and is now among Vietnam’s most developed localities.

Bac Ninh currently hosts more than 3,200 foreign-invested enterprises, including over 400 Chinese firms. Nearly 20,000 Chinese nationals are residing and working in the province, contributing to its industrial growth and regional trade links.

In September 2023, the former Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nanning city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to establish a cooperation consultation mechanism between local governments.

Before the administrative merger, Bac Ninh city and Bac Giang city each signed friendship cooperation agreements with Nanning city.

The Bac Ninh provincial leader expressed appreciation for Guangxi’s consistent support in facilitating the consumption of Bac Ninh’s agricultural products, particularly lychee. The province produces an estimated 200,000 tonnes of lychee annually, with 60% exported to China.

He outlined Bac Ninh’s development vision to become a national growth hub, featuring a semiconductor centre, logistics complexes and the under-construction Gia Binh Airport.

The Vice Chairman called on the Guangxi Foreign Affairs Office to act as a bridge connecting Chinese investors with Bac Ninh and to expand cooperation in culture, education and services.

Highlighting favourable geographic conditions for import-export activities between the two sides, he proposed that Guangxi facilitate Bac Ninh’s lychee, OCOP-certified products, and handicrafts in entering the Chinese market, particularly Guangxi. In return, Bac Ninh would support the entry of Guangxi’s products into its local market.

Director Wei Ran praised Bac Ninh’s development potential and suggested boosting exchanges and maximising the role of the Lan Xuong border gate to strengthen connectivity.

Guangxi is willing to assist in promoting Bac Ninh’s agricultural exports and invited the province to attend the upcoming 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning this September.

Wei Ran also proposed that Bac Ninh participate in regular cooperation mechanisms such as the “Spring Meeting” and “Joint Cooperation” forums and send students to study at the Artificial Intelligence Institute in Nanning to enhance education collaboration.

Both sides agreed to continue fostering their comprehensive and in-depth partnership. Bac Ninh will revise its cooperation plan to suit its new administrative status and consider dispatching a delegation to CAEXPO 22 as well as joining the “Spring Meeting” mechanism.
