Two Vietnamese students win diamond medals at 2025 WMI
Vietnamese students achieved outstanding results at the 2025 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI), including two diamond medals awarded to Tran Lam Dao, a Year 6 student, and Tran Gia Minh, a Year 7 student.
A total of 36 Vietnamese students from primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary schools took part in the 2025 WMI, held from July 25 to 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.

All members of the Vietnamese delegation won awards, earning 2 diamond medals, 9 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 13 bronze medals and 5 honourable mentions.
Among them, Tran Lam Dao, a Year 6 student from Nguyen Truong To Lower Secondary School, won a diamond medal, the champion award (Top 1 in the world for Year 6), the Legend Award (for winning a gold or diamond medal three consecutive years), and the Star of The World Trophy for being the highest-scoring contestant in the Vietnamese team.
Tran Gia Minh, a Year 7 student at Ngo Si Lien Lower Secondary School, was also awarded a diamond medal.
This year’s competition attracted 807 contestants from 23 countries and territories worldwide. The exam consisted of two sections: Multiple choice and written response.
Contestants competed for diamond medals (awarded to the top 3% of students in each year group), gold medals (top 15%), as well as silver and bronze medals and honourable mentions.
The success of the Vietnamese delegation continues the proud tradition of academic excellence among students from the capital in particular, and Viet Nam in general.
The WMI has been held annually since 2015, rotating among host countries such as China, Malaysia, Viet Nam, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Thailand, and others.
