Bac Ninh’s high-achievement sports reach new heights

Updated: 07:14, 01/09/2025

BAC NINH- Receiving continuous good news from domestic and international arenas, Bac Ninh sports is affirming its rising stature. The combination among tradition, strength and resources is paving the way for elite sports to make breakthroughs and reach new heights.

The highlight of Bac Ninh sports’ achievements over the past two months was the gold medal won by martial artist Nguyen Duy Tuyen at the 2025 Asian Pencak Silat Championship held in Ha Tinh.

Pencak silat martial artist Nguyen Duy Tuyen, a “golden” hope of Bac Ninh sport at SEA Games 33.

Although he has claimed glories at the Southeast Asian, Asian and world levels, this gold medal is especially meaningful to Nguyen Duy Tuyen when he won it on home soil. It was also an important springboard for him to set his sights on the 33rd SEA Games, the 5th Southeast Asian Games of his career.

Following Nguyen Duy Tuyen’s success, wushu athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy excellently won the silver medal in the women’s 60kg sanda category at the World Games 2025 in China’s Chengdu, Sichuan province.

In the Southeast Asian arena, the athletes Luong Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Cong Ha brought good news for Bac Ninh sports when winning total 3 gold medals at the 2025 Junior Judo and Southeast Asian Judo Championships held in Philippines.

Bac Ninh sport has also cemented its position at national tournaments when it has topped the team rankings at different events such as the national individual badminton championship and national junior and youth stick-pushing championships since July 2025.

Nguyen Thi Oanh is the highlight among the most outstanding athletes, who achieved a clean sweep in all four events including the 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, and 3,000m steeplechase at the National Athletics Championship.

This achievement provides a solid springboard for the little girl to look ahead to the 33rd SEA Games and further cements her status as the “queen of long-distance running”.

Bac Ninh sports have seen positive progress, fueled by the synergy created after the provincial merger.

Currently, the Sports Training and Competition Center No 1 is training 19 sports while the Center No 2 is training 15 ones under 4 levels (the provincial team, provincial youth team, provincial talent team and grassroots sports talented students) with total 787 athletes and talented students.

Among which, there are many elite and key sports that currently boast strong generations of athletes such as athletics, wushu, jujitsu, shuttlecock kicking, chess, badminton, wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, kickboxing, pencak silat, and rowing.

“The athletes’ success in domestic and international arenas has affirmed the province’s vision and effective performance in giving focus on potential and strong sports. Especially, athletes and coaches from different teams are given opportunities to share experiences and support each other in coaching and competition, thereby fostering the internal strength of each individual and collective, paving the way for new breakthroughs in high-performance sports”, said Nguyen An Phu, Director of of the Sports Training and Competition Center No 2.

According to Nguyen Van Oanh, Head of the Physical Training and Sports Management Division (under the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism), Bac Ninh sport will remove the “bottlenecks” after the merger. Particularly, it will have more land fund to build facilities and large-scale sports complexes.

With a solid pool of athletes and good national results, Bac Ninh sport remains secure in the short term. The real challenge lies in working out a long-term strategy for development of high-performance sports to enhance its position and rankings in international arenas.

In coming time, Bac Ninh high-achievement sports will strive to reach 2 important targets including SEA Games 33 (taking place in December in Thailand) and then the 10th National Sport Festival held in Ho Chi Minh city in 2026.

With a generation of athletes reaching the peak of their careers, showing strong performances in line with the province’s comprehensive and strategic investment, Bac Ninh sport is expected to achieve impressive results, matching its potential and strengths.
