Updated: 14:38, 05/08/2025

BAC NINH – Nguyen Duy Tuyen, born in 1994 and a key member of the Bac Ninh Pencak Silat team, recently made headlines by securing the gold medal at the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025 held in Ha Tinh province. This marks the sixth Asian gold medal in Nguyen’s career, firmly establishing his elite status in the 85-90 kg weight category.

Returning from the July 24-31 championship, Tuyen had only a brief period to visit his family before rejoining the national team’s training camp in Da Nang to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.

Reflecting on his journey to the gold medal, he said: “I entered the competition with an injury that was not yet fully healed, but I constantly reminded myself to give my all because this was my first time competing at the Asian championship on home soil. The large crowd of passionate supporters gave me the motivation to win each match.”

In the final match against a formidable opponent, Seik Ferdous Bin Sheik Alau’ddin from Singapore, Tuyen faced challenges but ultimately demonstrated his class with decisive strikes, securing a convincing victory.

“Having competed at various levels across Southeast Asia, Asia, and the world, winning gold and hearing the national anthem played on home ground was still an incredibly special moment for me. In that instant, all fatigue vanished, replaced by overwhelming pride and happiness,” the athlete shared.

Originally from Thanh Hoa province, Tuyen has proven himself as a top-tier Pencak Silat artist by winning gold medals at the World Pencak Silat Championships in 2012, 2014, and 2016, as well as at the 27th SEA Games (2013) and 29th SEA Games (2017).

His decision to join Bac Ninh in 2019 came at a pivotal moment when he sought a new base to support the most crucial phase of his career. The province’s generous support policies for high-achieving athletes, along with strategic investment in Pencak Silat, convinced him to make Bac Ninh his second home.

Since then, Tuyen has been a key competitor for Bac Ninh’s Pencak Silat team at national championships.

Following his triumph at the 2025 Asian Pencak Silat Championship, he now sets his sights on competing at the 33rd SEA Games, marking his fifth SEA Games appearance.
