Minister of Public Security reviews progress of Gia Binh international airport project in Bac Ninh

Updated: 11:13, 12/01/2026

BAC NINH - The Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang had recently worked with authorities in the northern province of Bac Ninh to review progress on the Gia Binh International Airport project, a key infrastructure development expected to serve major national events and boost regional growth.

Minister Luong Tam Quang, a Politburo member, led a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security to the meeting with Bac Ninh’s People’s Committee. Senior provincial leaders, including Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Hoang Son, attended the session.

Bac Ninh has identified compensation, land clearance and resettlement for the airport and related projects as a top priority. The provincial Chairman holds weekly meetings with departments and local authorities to review progress and address obstacles to keep the project on schedule.

Since October 2025, the provincial Party leadership has strengthened a steering committee headed by the Party Secretary, while a permanent task force has been set up to monitor progress on a daily basis.

Nearly 1,000 officials and technical staff have been mobilised, with a dedicated land clearance centre operating in Luong Tai commune. At the grassroots level, commune-level steering committees have also been formed to coordinate public outreach and administrative procedures.

Authorities reported notable progress in land acquisition. Surveys of agricultural land have covered more than 6,460 households, equivalent to about 83% of the total area required, with compensation payments exceeding 3 trillion VND (131 million USD).

For residential land, more than 80% of affected households have been inventoried, with completion targeted before mid-January 2026. Around 10,000 graves have been registered for relocation, with authorities aiming to complete relocation by the end of January.

Alongside the airport project, Bac Ninh is implementing four related developments, including resettlement areas and cemetery parks, to support displaced residents and grave relocation.

Despite the progress, provincial leaders acknowledged significant challenges. The workload remains large and complex, while timelines are tight. Some build-transfer projects linked to the airport have yet to be formally approved, even as land clearance and construction have already begun.

Minister Luong Tam Quang praised Bac Ninh’s strong political commitment and proactive coordination with investors and central agencies, saying overall implementation had met required milestones.

However, he urged the province to focus on several critical tasks, including finalising land price adjustment coefficients, approving resettlement projects and preventing potential security and public order risks.

He said the provincial police would play a central role in maintaining security during project implementation, while mobile police units would oversee the transport and extraction of construction materials. The minister agreed with provincial proposals and directed relevant agencies to resolve outstanding issues promptly.

The provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai voices at the event.

The Minister stressed that the first phase of the project, aimed at serving the APEC 2027 meetings, must adhere closely to practical conditions and strict timelines.

He called on investors to accelerate construction while completing legal procedures in line with regulations, with the goal of making Gia Binh International Airport a model aviation infrastructure project contributing to national and regional socio-economic development.

The provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai reaffirmed Bac Ninh’s commitment to completing the project ahead of schedule, describing it as both a political priority and an opportunity to attract investment, strengthen regional connectivity and enhance the province’s role as a growth pole in the capital region.
