Traceability technology seen as a “digital passport” for goods

Updated: 11:02, 05/09/2025

BAC NINH – The fight against counterfeit, substandard, and low-quality products is drawing increasing attention from manufacturers, businesses, and consumers alike. Applying digital traceability technology is becoming a vital solution to distinguish genuine products and protect brand integrity. In Bac Ninh province, this issue has also received strong attention from local authorities, with concrete support policies being put in place.

Growing interest in traceability technologies

Founded in 2020, Gia An Trading, Services, Tourism and Education Co., Ltd. in Trung Kenh commune has implemented traceability features on its products.

The Bac Ninh branch of the Anti-counterfeit Technology Centre (ACT) Vietnam signs a cooperation agreement to provide traceability and anti-counterfeit solutions for local businesses.

Each product box includes a serial code, barcode, and QR code, allowing consumers to verify information about the business, ingredients, production date, expiration date, and more.

Currently, the company has 10 products recognised as 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product), including peeled garlic, pickled garlic, honey-soaked garlic, and garlic infused in alcohol. The company’s average monthly sales range from 400 to 500 packaged units.

Vu Huy Tung, Director of the Bac Ninh branch of the Anti-counterfeit Technology Centre (ACT) Vietnam, said that demand for electronic product traceability among businesses and individual entrepreneurs is growing rapidly.

Since the beginning of 2025, the centre has supported over 70 businesses and cooperatives inside and outside the province with anti-counterfeiting solutions, using multilayer protection tools such as ACT labels (QR codes and serial numbers) and ACT Check software – a cloud-based authentication and traceability platform that is non-replicable and enables transparent product information.

He added that the centre also provides training on e-commerce business skills, helping enterprises adapt to new business models and find effective ways to protect their products in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Supporting the digitalisation of product traceability

Over the past few years, local authorities have actively supported organisations and individuals in adopting product traceability systems.

In the former Bac Giang province (now part of Bac Ninh province), a product traceability information management system has been in operation since September 2022.

From 2026 to 2030, the Department of Science and Technology will upgrade, update, and integrate the two product and goods traceability systems of the former Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces. The new system will apply advanced technologies to ensure interactivity, data security, and efficient traceability of products and goods.

As of April 2025, 159 entities had listed 273 products on the portal, with a total of 698,399 traceability stamps approved.

Meanwhile, in the former Bac Ninh province, the system recorded traceability data for 268 products, issued 254 traceability stamps, and created 13 management accounts.

To date, 100% of the province’s products rated 3-stars and above under the OCOP programme have applied traceability measures.

Recognising the urgent needs of local businesses and producers, the provincial People’s Committee recently issued Plan No. 38 to implement the proposal on deploying and managing a unified product traceability system in Bac Ninh for the 2026-2030 period.

Accordingly, the Department of Science and Technology is tasked with urgently upgrading, updating, and integrating the traceability platforms of the former Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces.

The new system will incorporate advanced technologies to ensure high interactivity, data security, and efficient traceability during the 2026-2030 period.

The overarching goal is to establish a systematic, public, and transparent traceability database that enhances product value, strengthens business competitiveness, and meets the demands of international integration while protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
