Updated: 16:25, 02/05/2026

BAC NINH - Bac Ninh remained among Vietnam’s top-performing localities in 2025, posting double-digit economic growth and ranking fifth nationwide, while foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows placed third nationally, according to provincial authorities.

Notably, the digital economy accounted for 46.4% of the province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP), the highest ratio in the country, underscoring Bac Ninh’s emergence as a major digital manufacturing and technology hub.

Over recent years, the northern province has accelerated investment in digital infrastructure to attract investment and support digital economic development.

Telecommunications, broadband Internet and high-speed mobile networks have been widely expanded, with 4G coverage reaching 99% and 5G coverage 60%.

Bac Ninh is also developing a concentrated digital technology park covering more than 213 hectares in Lien Bao commune and Hap Linh and Vo Cuong wards to attract high-tech investment projects.

Nationwide, the digital economy’s contribution to Vietnam’s GDP in 2025 was estimated at 14.02%, equivalent to about 72.1 billion USD.

Besides Bac Ninh, the localities with the highest digital economy shares in GRDP included Thai Nguyen at 29.5%, Phu Tho at 22.7%, Hai Phong at 22.3% and Hanoi at 17.3%.

The figures highlight Bac Ninh’s rapid adoption of digital technology in manufacturing, services and governance, far exceeding the national average.

Nguyen Phuong Bac, Former Director of the provincial Institute for Socio-Economic Development Studies, said the ratio demonstrated that Bac Ninh was not only leading in the scale of the digital economy but also had the potential to lead in digital economic quality in the future.

“The province possesses favorable conditions to participate more deeply in global digital value chains, particularly in the data economy and digital services economy,” he said.

The presence of major global technology corporations has played a key role in raising the province’s digital economy share. In 2025, newly registered and adjusted investment capital reached 18.5 billion USD, while FDI inflows alone totaled 5.5 billion USD, ranking third nationwide.

In the first quarter of 2026, the province granted investment certificates to 32 new projects in electronics and information technology.

Core digital sectors, including electronics manufacturing and information technology, accounted for more than 90% of Bac Ninh’s digital economy structure and continued to act as the main growth driver.

Large corporations such as Foxconn, Luxshare, Samsung, Canon and Amkor manufacture key electronic and optical products in the province, reinforcing Bac Ninh’s position in the global supply chain.

Around 1,300 enterprises are currently operating in the electronics and information technology sectors. Industrial production value in these sectors was estimated at 488 trillion VND (18.5 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2026.

E-commerce activity has also continued to expand. The province’s “Market 4.0 - cashless payment” model has been introduced across most traditional markets and commercial centers.

Cashless transactions now account for around 80% of all transactions province-wide, supported by 7.3 million bank accounts.

Authorities said digital technologies applied in production management, traceability, marketing and agricultural product distribution have helped enhance the value and branding of local products.

Alongside foreign-invested firms, domestic enterprises have increasingly adopted digital technologies, automation, artificial intelligence and big data in management and production to improve productivity, product quality and competitiveness.

Nguyen Van Dung, Director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology, said the digital economy had become a critical driver of local economic growth, particularly after the Politburo issued Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

To meet the demands of the digital era, Bac Ninh has prioritized the development of digital human resources and actively attracted reputable universities and training institutions to the province.
