Bac Ninh ensures flexible lychee sales strategy amid changing market conditions
BAC NINH - Although lychee output this year is expected to be lower than last year, Bac Ninh province and its key growing areas remain focused on trade promotion and sales support. Authorities are focusing on coordinating sales activities in a systematic manner and expanding access to domestic and international markets.
Localities take proactive measures
Phuc Hoa has the province’s largest early-ripening lychee cultivation area, covering more than 800 hectares, with output this year estimated at around 7,500 tonnes. Surveys of orchards at this time show healthy trees with many fruit clusters beginning to redden at the stems, signaling the upcoming harvest season.

The Phuc Hoa lychee harvest is expected to begin around May 15. Nguyen Van Thuc, a farmer in Lan Thinh village, is currently trimming excess branches and undersized fruits so the trees can concentrate nutrients on the remaining fruits.
His family’s more than two hectares of lychee trees are heavily laden with fruit, especially those planted on lowland fields, which yield better than hillside orchards.
This season, his family expects to harvest around 5 tonnes of early-ripening lychee. Even before the fruits ripen, traders have already placed deposits and scheduled collection dates.
Early-ripening lychee has long been a key crop and major source of income for residents in Phuc Hoa. Alongside production management, local authorities are paying particular attention to sales promotion efforts.
In Chu ward, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Mac Anh Tuan said the ward has nearly 2,000 hectares of lychee orchards, maintaining 19 export-certified growing area codes and 14 export-qualified packaging facilities.
In 2026, due to weather conditions and climate change, lychee flowering rates declined, leading to lower output compared to 2025. However, fruit quality is considered excellent, with attractive appearance and sweetness meeting both domestic and export market standards.
The ward is promoting concentrated production zones linked to eco-tourism development, taking advantage of the lychee harvest season to attract visitors for orchard tours and on-site consumption.
Local authorities are also encouraging residents to donate land for road expansion and transport infrastructure improvements in lychee-growing areas, facilitating cargo transport and attracting traders and tourists.
This season, the ward plans to strengthen promotion of lychee products through digital platforms, social media, and e-commerce channels, while cooperating with digital content creators to promote lychees among domestic and overseas consumers.
Along with Phuc Hoa and Chu, other major lychee-growing areas such as Luc Nam, Son Hai, and Phuong Son are also proactively implementing measures to boost consumption.
Diversifying markets, increasing product value
Bac Ninh currently has around 29,800 hectares of lychee cultivation, with total output estimated at nearly 100,000 tons.

In reality, fluctuations in harvest volume are not unusual for the lychee industry. Over the years, there have been both bumper crops and poor harvests, but with accumulated experience in trade promotion, the province has consistently adopted creative and adaptable solutions under all market conditions.
Following provincial authorities’ directions, relevant agencies have coordinated closely with businesses. Several companies have already signed lychee purchasing agreements with cooperatives and growers.
Localities continue evaluating and selecting high-quality orchards to combine product promotion with tourism development.
Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said trade promotion activities for lychee products have already been proactively implemented by the province and relevant agencies.
In addition to organising conferences within the province, trade promotion delegations have also visited traditional Chinese markets.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade has asked communes and wards to introduce outstanding orchards so the department can connect them with enterprises in industrial parks and clusters to purchase lychees as gifts for workers and employees.
