Digital organic ginseng project launched in Bac Ninh

Updated: 16:31, 06/05/2026

BAC NINH - Vietnam’s Northwest Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute has been assigned to lead a project to develop organic Danh mountain ginseng using digital technology applications in Phuc Hoa Commune, Bac Ninh Province.

Under the project, the institute will cooperate with Duc Hanh Danh Mountain Ginseng Cooperative to research and implement organic cultivation processes for Danh mountain ginseng in line with organic farming standards.

An organic-standard ginseng farm operated by Duc Hanh Danh Mountain Ginseng Cooperative in Phuc Hoa Commune.

The two-year programme, funded with more than 2.6 billion VND (over 98,700 USD), will also focus on deep processing of the medicinal herb, building a digitally managed organic production model linked across cultivation, processing and consumption stages, and developing traceability and management systems.

Other activities include compiling technical handbooks, organising scientific workshops and providing training for farmers and cooperatives.

Phuc Hoa Commune currently has more than 120 hectares of Danh mountain ginseng, accounting for the majority of the province’s total cultivation area. Production is mainly carried out by local households linked through cooperatives and cooperative groups.

Duc Hanh Danh Mountain Ginseng Cooperative has emerged as a key player in organising production, purchasing, preliminary processing and initial product development. The herb has gained a reputation for quality in the domestic market.

However, local authorities said quality control, standardised cultivation and processing procedures, and product traceability remain inconsistent. Deep processing activities are still limited, while sales largely depend on traditional domestic distribution channels without stable long-term supply chains.

Officials said the new digital organic production model is expected to improve standardisation from cultivation to distribution, strengthen traceability and help maintain the brand value of Danh mountain ginseng.
