First batch of Phuc Hoa lychees exported to Canada
BAC NINH - Phuc Hoa Commune in Bac Ninh province has exported its first batch of early-ripening lychees to Canada, marking a positive start to this year’s lychee season.
Le Quoc Khanh, Director of Khanh Duong Agricultural Cooperative in Quat Du 2 Hamlet, said: “The Cooperative purchased more than 2 tonnes of lychees from local farmers on May 11 for export to Canada. Farm-gate prices ranged from 40,000 to 50,000 VND (1.52 – 1.9 USD) per kg, significantly higher than many other fruits currently on the market”.

According to Khanh, the fruit was selected from high-quality orchards meeting food safety and traceability standards. The lychees were trimmed, leaves removed and packed into trays weighing between 20 kg and 25 kg before being transported for processing.
Prior to harvest, authorities collected samples from growing areas for pesticide residue testing, with results meeting export requirements.

In Hoa Lang Hamlet, Khang’s family owns more than 300 early-ripening lychee trees, with more than half already bearing fruit and entering the harvest period. |
To enter the Canadian market, the lychees must satisfy strict standards, including freshness, uniform quality and compliance with Global GAP GFS V6 standards. The fruit must also show no signs of pest or mechanical damage.
Dragonberry International Vietnam, the exporter of lychees, directly supervised and provided technical guidance to growers for several months ahead of harvest.
A company representative said the entire shipment would undergo processing before being transported by air to Canada and was expected to reach supermarket shelves within 7 to 10 days.
Strong early-season prices have brought optimism to local growers. Le Van Khang, a farmer in Hoa Lang Hamlet, said his family harvested more than 100 kg of lychees on May 11 and sold them at 40,000 VND per kg, earning around 4 million VND.

This lychee season, Khanh Duong Agricultural Cooperative plans to purchase around 150 tonnes of lychees for export to the United States, Canada and Japan, as well as for distribution through domestic supermarket and convenience store chains. |
Although output this year is lower than usual, the fruit quality and sweetness have attracted traders early in the season, he added.
Phuc Hoa is one of the province’s key early-ripening lychee-growing areas, with around 845 hectares under cultivation and estimated output this year of nearly 7,500 tonnes.
The commune has recently welcomed traders and businesses seeking supply agreements with cooperatives, while also attracting visitors interested in touring local orchards.
